Members met for their monthly meeting at Antrobus House.
In the absence of President Margaret Aymes, the Vice-President Pat Hinwood welcomed members and guests to the meeting, saying it was the ‘season of change’. She was acting President and the speaker for the evening had also changed! She then welcomed Mr Peter Noble our speaker for the evening, in place of Katie Mitchell. Mr Noble quickly introduced us to the subject of his talk ‘Mercy Ships’, beginning with an eye-opening video clip.
He explained how he had originally become involved with Mercy Ships, through his daughter, talking about the work they do and how they can achieve so much. Everyone involved with Mercy Ships are volunteers who fund their own passage, giving their time and expertise. Members were encouraged to support the work in small ways and many discussions took place over coffee.
Pat then led the members through the usual business, with the success of the Quizzical Pursuits team applauded together with those who had helped to raise over £820 on the Walk for Wards!!
Our Delegate at the recently held AGM in Cardiff, Jane Crook had submitted her report which was shared with members.
Again there were upcoming events which members looked forward to, including the trip to Tyntesfield in August, a gardening visit and then the trip to Oxford in September.
We meet at Antrobus House on the second Thursday of each month and new members are always welcome.

We welcome other groups who come to visit Salisbury, Stonehenge, Woodhenge, Wilton and surrounding areas. Wholesome WI teas. Details to suit you. For the availability of our lovely hall and details contact Mrs A Rasey Telephone 01980 597373 or any officer.
Amesbury Evening WI was formed in November 1971 (with the help of the then Amesbury Afternoon WI) to cater for the number of working women unable to attend afternoon meetings.
We now have members of all ages. Our membership at this years AGM was over 40.
We are a part of the Wiltshire Federation of Womens Institutes and a member of the Stonehenge Group.
We are a very active W.I. with the following groups activities:
Produce, Skittles, Whist, Rambling and Gardening.
Amesbury Evening WI continued to enjoy friendship and fun within the WI, and this year has been no exception. Membership has continued to grow over the year, with a membership of 49 recorded. Sadly there have been those who have left due to relocation - Doreen Bevan, who we remember with great affection.
Our speakers throughout the year have been varied, lively and above all, interesting. These have included Mr Haycroft who spoke about fuchsias with fascinating insight, Mrs Emery 'You can't possibly miss it!' who explained so cleverly how she became a speaker -we couldn't stop laughing!! Then there was 'The Jurassic Coast' by Geoff Marsh - what a journey we took with delightful slides, Lynn Derry on the Bustard - almost with slides!!, a brilliant Chocolate demonstration with delicious tasters by Barbara Parker, The Amesbury Visual Arts who let us 'have a go', Trisha Lewis on the 'Art of Being Perfect' -we certainly are! Finally Lynn Miles who spoke with enthusiasm on Gardening, how her business has grown over the years and the best Hardy’s and Half-hardy’s to plant in the garden! Added to this impressive list, we couldn't possibly forget our own members who so ably entertained us at Christmas and Michael Bowyer who ran a Flower Workshop in November.
Groups continue to thrive within Amesbury Evening WI, including the Skittles Team, who enjoyed regular matches against other Institutes, the Whist team, the Ramblers, together with Produce 1 and the Lunch Club and the never to be forgotten Gardening Group.
Not only have the groups enjoyed their various activities, but have also contributed to events outside the WI, supporting the Amesbury Carnival, the Take £5' campaign for the 90th Birthday Celebrations, and closer to home, for our own institute, in the shape of Teas' for visiting groups and refreshments for various other occasions.
Amesbury Evening has been well led by both a dedicated President and back up Committee'.
As we look forward to the coming year with yet more varied speakers and events, a big 'thank you' should go to you all - the membership of Amesbury Evening WI.
